AFM TO PRESENT SIX STRATEGIC PROJECTS AT THE UPCOMING ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AND MACHINE TOOL CONGRESS

06 October, 2025

At the 24th edition of THE MANUFACTURING CONGRESS, AFM Cluster and its partner entities will present the progress of six flagship projects in which they are involved: ADAPT-IA, ACCUBASK, AI-MATTERS, MECACOGNIT, MHAYA and proVerse.

These projects address strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced metrology, cognitive mechatronics, Industry 5.0 and the industrial metaverse, all of them with a strong impact on the future of the sector.

Featured Projects:

  • ADAPT-IA
Led by Vicomtech and with the participation of INVEMA, UPV/EHU, MAFEX, AIC and UZEI, this project focuses on the integration of Adaptive AI and Machine Learning Operations techniques into industrial processes, with a special emphasis on natural language processing in Basque. Funded by the ELKARTEK program, it opens new possibilities in data generation and structuring, multilingual content, and advanced support services.

  • ACCUBASK
With a consortium led by Soraluce and the participation of AFM, along with companies such as Danobat, Ibarmia, Zayer, Fagor Automation, ONA and Gaindu, this HAZITEK-funded project drives precision engineering and zero-defect manufacturing through innovations in metrology, geometric control, and calibration processes.

  • AI-MATTERS
A European initiative coordinated by CEA (France), bringing together entities from eight countries, including AFM. Its goal is to create a European network of testing and experimentation infrastructures to accelerate the adoption of AI, robotics and intelligent systems in the manufacturing industry, under the framework of the Digital Europe Programme.

  • MECACOGNIT
Funded by ELKARTEK, this project explores cognitive mechatronics for smarter and more adaptive industrial systems. Coordinated by Ikerlan, and supported by companies such as Soraluce, Fagor Arrasate, Mondragón Assembly and Juaristi, it seeks to integrate AI and physical systems to advance digitalization by design in advanced manufacturing.

  • MHAYA
With the participation of seven machine tool manufacturers and the support of centers such as Tecnalia, UPV/EHU and the University of Burgos, MHAYA aims to develop autonomous and intelligent machines aligned with the principles of Industry 5.0. Funded by the CDTI, the project promotes resilience, sustainability and human-machine collaboration in production environments.

  • proVerse
Led by Fagor Automation and involving AFM, Ibarmia, ONA and technology centers such as INVEMA, Tecnalia and CFAA-UPV/EHU, proVerse is developing a process metaverse to virtualize parts and machining operations, combining AI, advanced simulation and digital twins. Funded by HAZITEK, it has already achieved major milestones in its first year of implementation.

Boosting Industrial Competitiveness

AFM’s participation in these projects demonstrates the cluster’s commitment to collaborative innovation and technology transfer, strengthening the competitiveness of the Basque and Spanish sector in an increasingly demanding global market.

The Advanced Manufacturing and Machine Tool Congress thus consolidates itself as a key space for sharing knowledge, identifying opportunities and anticipating the challenges of the industry’s future.
